The most obvious example of this blatant rehashing is Medusa, who is essentially a badly-drawn version of Cruella DeVil. But like its predecessor Robin Hood, this film is replete with examples of the company shamelessly ripping itself off, raiding its back catalogue of recognisable scenes and characters, and attempting unsuccessfully to pass them off as something new. We have gotten used to Disney using the same voice actors on multiple productions - for instance, Betty Lou Gerson voices both Cruella DeVil and Madame Mim (The Sword in the Stone). What's equally depressing is how derivative the film is.

The passing of Walt Disney, and the retirement of Golden Age directors like Clyde Geronomi, Wilfred Jackson and Hamilton Luske, had left it in the hands of a new generation, who were taking on an established brand rather than blazing a trail of their own.

In saying that, Peak: The Rescuers is by no means a bad movie as it pretty much delivers as per expectation. Gruesome and cruel it may seem, but of the actual scene is shown, the emotional engagement level will undoubtedly increase. Another flaw is the constant cutting of rescue sequences or in particular the non-showing of the much awaited amputation scene. Director Osamu Katayama does extremely well in setting up a tense finale through some excellent build up work, Although, Peak: The Rescuers is easily inspiring, the film lacks an emotional punch and the result is definite failure to fully engage the audience in the proceedings. The film is ably aided by an extremely charismatic performance from lead actor – Shun Oguri, which allows the film to storm through the audiences' minds at a million miles an hour. In delivering as expected, the film succeeds without any major fireworks, but rather going the safe route of efficiency and effectiveness.
Peak: The Rescuers is exactly what you expect, a movie about mountain rescuers saving people in the face of adversity and dangerous weather conditions.
